NEDC,
an exhibitor at the North American Council on Adoptable Children
Knoxville, TN -- August 9, 2006
-- The National Embryo Donation Center, NEDC, announced today
that it was proud to be an exhibitor at the North American
Council on Adoptable Children, NACAC, 32nd Annual Conference
in Long Beach, California. Information was presented and brochures
disseminated to the attendees that explained embryo donation
and adoption. A staff member was on site to answer questions
and discuss in-depth the option of embryo adoption.
With support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Baptist Health System Foundation in Knoxville, TN, which serves as the primary recipient of the HHS grant, works with the National Embryo Donation Center and the Christian Medical & Dental Association to educate the public about embryo donation and adoption. The NACAC conference was a wonderful outlet for this information.
The conference included over 1550 people with 37 different exhibitors. One of the many attendees stated while visiting "I have never heard of embryo adoption before, this is such a wonderful option. I just wish more people knew about it!"
Embryo adoption is much newer, and slightly different, than traditional adoption; adoptive parents are recognized as the birth parents of the child. The genetic parents determine their own level of involvement in the adoption process and whether or not to remain anonymous. After completing the embryo adoption agreement and a home study, the embryos are transferred to the adoptive mother, allowing her to experience pregnancy and the birth of their adopted child.
